The GFA Aztech Academy U11s recently returned victorious from Jersey, winning their match against the Jersey Schools FA side 4–1.

After a season of hard work, dedication and anticipation, the 14-player squad travelled to Jersey on March 22nd, arriving at Springfield Stadium ready for their morning kick-off.

The players were excited but managed to contain their emotions and remain focused on the task they had been training for all season. The match began at a frantic pace, but

Guernsey soon took a strong grip on proceedings, finding success in behind the Jersey back line.

They took a 1–0 lead, which quickly became 2–0 midway through the first half, with both goals coming down the left side following some tidy play out wide. Guernsey then made it 3–0 to strengthen their position. However, Jersey responded well and pulled a goal back before half-time, keeping the Guernsey players alert and preparing them for a challenging second half.

Jersey threatened and pushed for a comeback, but the Guernsey defence and goalkeeper were equal to the task, maintaining their two-goal cushion. As the game became more stretched, Guernsey once again found space in behind with their pacey front line, and a fourth goal sealed the victory with little time remaining.

The match finished 4–1, marking the third successive victory for Guernsey in the Primary School Muratti, with two of those wins now coming away from home.

U11 Coach Etienne Vance said:

“The boys were fantastic. To win it in the way we did was a reflection of how hard they’ve worked this season. You could tell how much they wanted it. Myself and Jacques (Cauvin) couldn’t have been more proud of the lads. It was a special moment for us coaches to see the boys representing the island.”

Jacques Cauvin added:

“A really professional and well-displayed performance from such a young team! They carried themselves perfectly and represented the island just like a senior side would. They deserved everything they got, with every player playing such an important role and proving how much their hard work has paid off.

A great bunch of lads to coach and guide through their first Muratti.”
