Players from the GFA Aztech Academy and the Mourant Girls Academy were treated to an unforgettable experience in May, as Manchester United captain and England international Maya Le Tissier returned home for a special event in partnership with Puma.

Hosted at Victoria Park, the session brought together the academy players for a day that combined elite football insight with personal inspiration. Maya — one of the most recognisable young talents in the women’s game — spent time engaging with players, answering questions, and sharing her journey from Guernsey grassroots to the international stage.

She spoke openly about the challenges she faced on her path to the top, the dedication required to succeed, and the importance of believing in yourself. Maya also joined in with small-sided games, offering encouragement and guidance to players as they showcased their skills.

The visit was made possible through Puma’s sponsorship of Maya, especially in the lead-up to this summer’s Women’s European Championships — a tournament that England, and Maya, went on to win. To mark the occasion, Puma generously provided each player with kit to wear for the day, and keep, adding a lasting memento to an already unforgettable day.

Maya’s presence brought a real sense of possibility to the Academy environment — reinforcing the belief that with hard work, support, and self-belief, even the biggest dreams can be rooted in Guernsey soil.

It was a day the young players won’t soon forget — and one that left a lasting impression of what’s possible when talent meets opportunity.
