After a summer of reflection, and putting some proactive changes in place, the GFA Aztech Academy has officially relaunched.
The new Academy, which continues to be proudly supported by Aztech, has been designed to help bring fresh challenges to young footballers in Guernsey.
A competitive pathway within Guernsey football is vital to help prepare players for representative matches and create a desire to wear the Guernsey badge; but also to develop those players as individuals and teammates for the benefit of football at club level.
This reboot started with the recent trial process for our Academy age groups from Year 4 (U9’s) to Year 9 (U14’s). Over the past month, all of last season’s Academy players, along with players performing well at club level, undertook a 3-week trial process where players technical skills were challenged, as well as how they matched up in various game situations. After this, the coaches had the difficult process of selecting squads of roughly 16 players for each age group.
With the trials now completed, and squads chosen, the new Academy groups started their training programme last week down at the KGV.
The smaller and more focused groups will now enable the Academy coaches to optimise learning opportunities within training, and create a competitive environment that will hopefully push the players on to become the best footballers that they can be.
